    A Thousand-Year-Old Hamlet on the Via Francigena

    Villa Montecastello rises on the remains of an ancient village dating back to the year 1000, once a stop for pilgrims, soldiers and merchants traveling along the historic Via Francigena.

    I'm Jens Schmidt, owner of Villa Montecastello. Together with my family and our staff, we carry on the art of Tuscan hospitality with passion and attention to detail.
    Through the Organic Farm, we produce organic extra virgin olive oil from our olive trees, following sustainable practices and enhancing the genuine food of own production.

    My great passion for wine allows me to offer you an authentic food and wine experience: selected tastings, local stories, and the chance to discover fascinating and sometimes forgotten flavors, an expression of Italy's finest tradition.

    “The most relaxing vacation I ever had!”

    This was my first trip to Italy and I know there will be many more to follow. We booked the trip because I was interested in taking a week long cooking class at the Villa with a chef from a large USA city. The chef was unable teach the class, however, I still wanted to take the class and inquired if anyone else could do it. I was very happy to learn that the owner, Jens, teaches cooking classes. It could not have turned out any better. I had the best time when I was in the kitchen learning to cook authentic Tuscan food.
